Memorials & Commemorations

In addition to formal, national, memorials, there are many "special" places where Tempsford Crews are commemorated, often close to where they crashed. Some of them are pictured here

Communities in many countries have decided to pay tribute to those who lost their lives in the fight to bring them freedom. These pages give a flavour of this: if you know of other places where Tempsford Crews are buried or are remembered, please let us know, so that we can add them.

TVARA members are often involved in services of commemoration, and the "host" communities are always delighted when family members of those lost are able to attend.

Tempsford crew members who have no known grave are all remembered with honour on the walls of the Air Forces Memorial, at Runnymede. They are among the more than 20,000 airmen remembered there. All Tempsford personnel killed in action are also listed on the panels at the International Bomber Command Centre in Lincolnshire. Bob was fortunate enough to be able to attend the opening ceremony of the centre, and his report is here.

In 2016, TVARA members funded a plaque to be laid at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire. Many members attended the dedication ceremony.
