Visitor Comments: Hello, my mother was based at Tempsford as a WAAF. She was a driver and drove crews out to their aircraft. She told me about covered wagons going out to the aircraft and just occasionally the back covering would open and she saw people in strange uniforms and clothes, presumably going to be dropped from the Lysanders. I will dig out a picture of her if it will help.

Visitor Comments: My father - Kenneth John Bettles - flew with 161 Squadron from Tempsford. I believe he flew as first officer in Hudsons although he did also fly Stirlings. He is now approaching his 88th birthday. Understandably, he is loath to talk of his experiences and, regretably, his log-books have been lost.I recently visited Tempsford but could only find references to those serving personnel who had been lost.I would welcome any information on the Hudson activities and 161 Squadron.

I am trying to find more about my Uncle Kenneth Bateman, He was flying officer 146944 part of 138 Squadron and died on the 8th June 1944 near Doudeville. He was the W.op/Air Gnr and is buried along with the rest of the crew in St Sever Cemetery nr Rouen. His final flight was operation Donald - can anyone tell me more about the operation and or earlier service history. I intend visiting his grave on the 13.09.2008. Many thanks.

Hi Bob, Congratulations on launching the Tempsford Squadrons site - an excellent idea. The website gives some background to what they were involved in.Holding a considerable archive on RAF Tempsford there's lots I can let you use that can be uploaded. Having researched the airfield I I've recently embarked on another project, the Women of RAF Tempsford, the latest edition arrived in my hands early July.
