Visitor Comments: How nice to be able to read this history to understand a bit more of what my father did in the war.  I am forever grateful to be living in Canada!

My brother-in-law Flt/Sgt, Pilot Officer, later Wing Commander Reed MVO DFC and Bar served as a wireless operator in 161 Squadron on its formation having moved across from the King's Flight. From your records I see that he was posted missing on a flight 24/9/42. He escaped through France, and presumably Spain, and was back on operational duty on 21/1/43.

I hope this adds to the information on this excellent website and would, of course, be pleased to learn any other relevent information.

Visitor Comments: Thank you for your interesting website. I was delighted to read the transcriptions of the squadron's ops in 1942 and 1943, which included many ops in which my uncle Gerald Herbert Cruwys participated. You can read more about Gerry by following the links on my website in the section on "Historical Occurrences".

This is a wonderful site. It commemorates the memory of a host of the bravest of airmen, many of whom not only paid the supreme sacrifice, but whose valour, sacrifice and sheer airmanship skills - conducted under the tightest wartime security and secrecy - have been sadly neglected since WW2.

This web site is a leader amongst those revealing and commemorating the debt we all owe to these Tempsford Squadrons. Warmest congratulations. Keep up this outstanding work.
